Accurate measurements are the biggest factor in a blouse that fits well. You only need a soft measuring tape and a helper.

## Quick answer

Wear a well-fitting inner garment, stand straight, keep the tape snug but not tight, and measure bust, waist, shoulder, armhole, sleeve length, blouse length and front and back neck depth. Measure twice.

## What you need

- A soft tape measure
- A well-fitting, non-padded inner garment
- A helper, a pen and paper

## Step by step

1. **Bust:** wrap the tape around the fullest part of the chest, keeping it level at the back.
2. **Under bust:** measure directly under the bust.
3. **Waist:** measure the narrowest part of your torso.
4. **Shoulder:** measure across the back from one shoulder edge to the other.
5. **Armhole:** measure around the top of the arm.
6. **Sleeve length and round:** measure from the shoulder to your preferred sleeve end, then around the upper arm.
7. **Blouse length:** measure from the shoulder over the bust to where the blouse should end.
8. **Front and back neck depth:** measure from the neck down to the lowest point you want the neckline.

## Common mistakes

- Measuring over a padded bra
- Pulling the tape too tight
- Letting the tape slope at the back
- Measuring alone
