Your lehenga fabric
Used for the blouse. Between 28 and 52 inches.
Waist to floor, usually 38 to 42 inches.
How to use this tool
- Enter your bust size and the skirt length from waist to floor.
- Choose the flare of the skirt and the fabric width.
- Tick the parts you want to include: lining, can-can net, blouse and dupatta.
- Read the total to buy, with a line for each part.
How the estimate works
A lehenga skirt is cut as trapezoid panels. The calculator works out how many panels are needed to reach the hem sweep of the flare you choose, fits two panels per fabric length by cutting them head to toe, and adds a hem allowance. Lining and can-can net are the same quantity as the skirt, the blouse comes from the blouse fabric calculator, and the dupatta is added at 2.5 metres.
Typical skirt amounts on 44 inch fabric, 40 inch length
| Flare | Panels | Skirt fabric |
|---|---|---|
| A-line | 4 | about 2.3 m |
| Semi-flared | 6 | about 3.5 m |
| Full flare | 8 | about 4.7 m |
| Circular | 10 | about 5.9 m |
Tips
- Embroidered lehenga fabric is often sold by the piece or as ready panels, so check the panel width before buying.
- Borders and motifs change how the fabric is cut, and may need extra.
- Can-can net adds volume but also weight, so plan lining and support at the waist.

Frequently asked questions
How much fabric is needed for a lehenga?
+
A skirt needs about 2.3 to 6 metres of 44 inch fabric depending on the flare. With lining, a blouse and a dupatta, the total is often 8 to 15 metres.
How much fabric for a bridal lehenga?
+
A full-flare or circular bridal lehenga usually needs 5 to 6 metres for the skirt alone, plus lining, can-can net, blouse and dupatta.
Do I need a can-can with a lehenga?
+
A can-can gives the skirt volume and a smooth shape. It is optional for a light A-line, and common for fuller flares.
Does the length change the amount?
+
Yes. Each extra inch of length adds about 2.5 cm per panel pair, so a longer lehenga needs more fabric.
Can you stitch a lehenga to my measurements?
+
Yes. Lehengas and blouses are made to measure, and heavier embroidery should be planned well ahead of the date.
