Blouse Too Tight at the Waist — Causes and Fixes
A blouse that is tight at the waist can be let out at the side seams if there is allowance, or reshaped by adjusting the waist darts.
Depends on the seam allowance · Updated
A tight waist makes a blouse uncomfortable to sit in and can cause the hem to ride up.
Likely causes
- The waist was measured too snugly or without ease.
- Waist darts were cut too deep.
- The blouse was made to the bust size only.
- You gained or lost size since it was stitched.
How it is fixed
- Let out the side seams from bust to hem.
- Make the waist darts shallower.
- Add a panel at the back or side if there is matching fabric.
Can it be altered?
Sometimes, depending on the allowance in the seams.
